The safety of high performance cars

We all remember what happened with Toyota a couple of years ago, hit the brake and speed up. It was unsafe, but they fixed it. Toyota, unfortunately, had its issues in safety with the more factory produced cars, the ones that everybody has. The corollas and Prius' and all that. The safety hazard was brought to light because of the popularity of the cars. But, it made me think; What if any, are the safety issues in todays high performance racers? Do they have brakes that don't work too or is it a faulty chassis? Sooo, I did some research and what I’ve found is nothing... absolutely nothing. I searched about 15 or 20 times using different keywords search engines, you name it. And I could not find one repeated problem with the car braking down midrace. It seems instead that the breakdowns are more generally caused by racers who try to take a turn too fast or try to overtake and crash. There is the occasional, the engine overheated or the brakes were worn down, somehow..., but there was just no evidence of a huge issue like there was with Toyotas brakes. So in conclusion, good job to racing engineers on keeping cars safe. Oh, I also managed to find this awesome diagram on Formula one I liked. Unfortunately it was huge so I can't post it here but the link is right below the text so make sure to check that out and leave a comment or submit your thoughts on the poll. Thanks again and have a Happy whatever it is your doing over the break!
